One word substitution in hindi and english

एकार्थी शब्द की परिभाषा भाषा में कई शब्दों के स्थान पर जिस एक शब्द को बोल कर भाषा को अधिक प्रभावशाली एवं आकर्षक बनाया जाता है, उस एक शब्द को english में one word substitution तथा hindi में एकार्थी शब्द कहा जाता है। जहाँ थोड़े शब्दों में काम चल सकता हो, वहाँ वाक्यांश या वाक्य का प्रयोग करना न केवल शक्ति का उपव्यय है, बल्कि समय भी नष्ट होता है।

Word substitution is the use of one word in place of a one-word phrase to clarify sentence structure. अंग्रेजी में भी ऐसे अनेक शब्द हैं जो अकेले पूरे-पूरे वाक्य के लिए प्रयुक्त होते है। आज हम कुछ इन्ही one word substitution का hindi और english में प्रयोग के examples देखेंगे।

Abdicate (त्यागना) – To give up a throne voluntarily.

Epicure (रसिया) – A person fond of refined enjoyment.

Exonerate (दोषमुक्त करना) – To free a person of all blames in a case.

fastidious (दुराराध्य) – A person difficult to place.

Fatalist (भाग्यवादी) – A person who believes that all events are predetermined or subject to fate.

Honorary (अवैतनिक) – A post that doesn’t carry any salary.

Illegal (गैरकानूनी) – That which is against law.

Illiterate (निरक्षर) – A person who can not read or write.

Irrevocable (स्थिर) – That which can not be charged.

Illicit (अवैध) – A trade that is prohibited by law.

Insoluble (जटिल) – A problem that can not be solved.

Inflammable (ज्वलनशील) – Liable to catch fire easily.

Infanticide (शिशु हत्या) – Murderer of infants or killing of infants.

Matricide (मातृहत्या) – The murderer or murder of one’s own mother.

Patricide (पितृहत्या) – The murderer or murder of one’s own father.

kidnap (अपहरण करना) – To carry away a person forcibly.

Medieval (मध्यकालीन) – Belong to the middle age.

Matinee (दूसरे पहर का शो) – A cinema show which is held in the afternoon.

Notorious (कुख्यात) – A man with an evil reputation.

Manuscript (हस्तलिपि) – Handwritten pages of a literary work.

Namesake (हमनाम) – Person having the same name.

Martyr (शहीद) – One who dies for a noble cause

Maiden speech (प्रथम भाषण)-The first speech delivered by a person

Novice (नौसिखिए) – One who is new to some trade or profession.

Omnipotent (सर्वशक्तिमान) – One who is all-powerful.

Omnipresent (सर्वव्यापक) – One who is present everywhere.

Optimistic (आशावादी) – One who looks at the bright side of a thing.

Panacea (सर्वरोग औषधि) – A remedy for all diseases.

Polyandry (बहुपतित्व) – Practice of having more than one husband at a time.

Polygamy (बहुविवाह)  – Practice of having more than one wife at a time.

Postmortem (शवपरीक्षा) – Medical examination of a body held after death.

Pessimist (निराशावादी) – One who looks at the dark side of a thing.

Postscript (परिशिष्ट भाग) – Anything written in the letter after it has been signed.

Philistine (अशिक्षित मनुष्य) – One who does not care for art and literature

Red-tapism (लालफीताशाही) – Too much official formality.
